civil disobedience

After refusing to pay the poll tax, Thoreau was put in jail for one night; this night let his mind go far beyond the cell's borders and wrote civil disobedience. In civil disobedience, Thoreau discusses moral needs by which conscience is the only leader for one's mind. The government is taking control of everything, even the thoughts of the people; but, unfortunately, it couldn't access Thoreau's mind. Every person is born on his or her own nature not what he or she is obliged to do. The issue is like when the acorn and chestnut fall side by side, each one grows on its own with its own nature regardless of the way the other grows. Also, he says that by paying taxes and following the rules one is not convinced with, he or she became a reason behind the slavery occurring and the Mexican war. Moreover, Thoreau's principle was very simple; as long as the person's conscience is still alive, never let the government to compromise it even when it order's the to do so.

self reliance

Depending on oneself and only oneself at this era is one's weapon to defeat conformity and crown uniqueness. "True success won't ever be reached by the help of others but only you", that's what self reliant people think of. As a means of technological advances, usually, a self reliant person would disagree for some of them for technological and communication services ruin his or her own standards about depending on only oneself. One apt instance is the case of the newspapers we have these days. Expectantly, a self reliant character would not only disagree with those means of delivering news, but also would criticize them for not letting the person depend on himself. For an independent person, those means of getting news right to homes are not helpful at all; however, they are destroying one's unique abilities in thinking and getting news by himself. Not only newspapers are dis-favorable to a self reliant person, but also the T.V is to be criticized by him. According to "getting up alone" human beings, T.V does ruin the way of thinking of the surrounding circumstances and occasions. The talk shows and news that come on the T.V do net let the human think by himself about what is going on around him. Media has to always interfere of the people's way of thinking which leads them to be dependent on what they hear. All in all, being a self reliant is being completely dependent on oneself without the intervention of any outside force neither in one's way of thinking nor one's actions.
